Purchasing Hair Chalk, Why & How.

We here at Pelo Hair Los Anegeles sell the world's best human hair extension, which are always ethically sourced. We also sell trending products, such as hair chalk, to keep up with client demand. So, what is hair chalk and how does it work?

Hair chalk adds temporary vivid color to your existing hair. It can be worn on any type and/or color of hair. You can add a couple daring streaks of pink, blue, green or purple. Celebrity Lauren Conrad posted a photo on her blog with tie-dyed (multi-colored) hair as a result of hair chalk the product has been all the rage. Every beauty magazine is writing about the product, including a nice piece on Yahoo. Read it here: http://news.yahoo.com/chalk-coloring-hair-pastels-trend-140938270.html

Hair chalk works because the temporary product is composed of highly concentrated color. You can buy the product from us. Make sure to have a spray bottle filled with clean water on hand. You will also need a flat iron or a curling iron. Make sure to have rubber gloves on before touching the product as it can stain skin. The same goes for fabric so apply the product when wearing an old shirt.

The steps:

A. Spray a 1-inch section of hair with water. You don't need to soak the entire strand, just go as high up as you want the color to be.

B. Color on your hair with one of the hair chalk pastels.

C. Wait for your hair to air dry. Depending on your hair, this could take up to a half of an hour.

D. Using the curling or flat iron, go over each colored strand. This sets the colors in your hair, so it will last longer. Then brush and style however you normally would!

Hair chalk can stay in your hair for up to a week. Really, the amount of time depends on how processed (or not processed) your hair is. Bleached out hair tends not to hold the color very long where virgin hair seems to grab the chalk colors longer.

July Hair Extension Trends!

July is here, finally! The trend for hair this month is long, beach waves. But, what if you have short to medium hair? You don't have to commit to a hot wig or traditional hair extensions. We here at Pelo Hair Los Angeles offer Tape / Skin Weft hair. You can easily self apply it or have it applied at your salon. This type of hair extension is double-sided and is applied directly to your own hair, creating long and flowing locks that can be easily removed with oil.

If you have a photo of what you would like to look like , you can also upload it directly on our website along with your current photo (front and back of your head), and we can recommend what length of tape hair would be best for you.

Tape hair is easy to apply and care for. It is one of our best-selling products. Again, all of our hair is always ethically-sourced.

Hair Extension Color Charts Are Here!

Many of you asked for our hair color charts to be on the website. Well, ask and you shall receive. We have both of these color charts on our website and now right here on our blog! If you ever have a question about a color match please call us before ordering. It avoids a headache on your end and one less trip to the post office to correct the problem.

Also, if you're thinking about dyeing your own hair extensions then review the tips below.

Tips to Dye Hair Extensions:

1. Always test a section of your hair extensions with your desired hair dye to see what the color looks like and see if it matches your natural hair. Don't dye the entire lot of hair until you tested a section first.

1. Make sure you dye your clip in hair extensions to a darker shade and not a lighter one. We, as people, tend to overestimate how dark something really is. Chose darker and you will get an exact match.

2. Always use a good quality semi-permanent hair dye as this helps your human hair extensions to hold their color better and as a result, the color will last longer. Permanent dye will not hold as well and you might have to redo the process.

4. Start color application in the mid-lengths of long hair and work the color up to the roots and down to ends. The roots will be the last part of the hair to take the color.

5. Once you color the extensions, fold the foil over the weft hair and allow the color to stay on the hair as long as the instructions suggest. Don't scrunch the hair or wrap it in a bun unless you want a tie-dyed effect.

5.Like you do for your natural hair, Once you rinse the color, make sure you condition it to prevent damage.

Once you have cleaned them, let the hair extensions dry completely so that the moisture fades away, especially, if they are human hair extensions. Don't try to wear the extensions out while they are still moist.

How to curl hair extensions .

Here at Pelo Hair Los Angeles, we often are asked if it is ok to curl our hair extensions. Yes, in fact- it is always ok to curl human hair extensions (pending there isn't a special treatment) or straighten them. Here are some tips when styling your hair extensions.

Make sure you brush the hair and remove any tangles or knots.

Although not required, we recommend you spray a thermal heat protectant over the extensions and comb the product through.

Heat your curling iron on medium high heat.

Curl the hair how you would normally curl (or straighten) your own hair.

That's it! You're done.

Best Hair Detainglers for Hair Extensions.

Our hair is just like your hair. After all, our products are made from 100% ethically-sourced human hair. And, just like your hair, our hair extensions can tangle if they are tied with harsh closures or not properly cared for. Should you get a tangle in your beautiful Brazilian hair, or any of our other hair extension products, don't worry. We recommend using the following products to detangle our hair extensions.

#1. Qhemet Biologics Cocoa Tree Detangling Ghee

This product sells for just under twenty dollars. It is made with Pure Cocoa (Theobroma cacao) Butter, which makes it an awesome product for your hair. Plus, it does not contain mineral oil, lanolin, silicones, parabens or artificial fragrances.

#2. Kinky Curly Knot Today

You can buy this product anywhere, especially at Target. It sells for under fifteen dollars and works wonders on curly hair.

#3. John Frieda Root Awakening Health Boosting Detangling Spray.

Just because this product says 'root' doesn't mean you have to use it that way. Spray on your hair extensions and comb it through. Your hair will look glossy and feel soft and bouncy. Great for all hair extensions products

Pelo Hair Los Angeles is also developing a few products to help you take great care of your hair extensions. Keep checking back for updates on our latest venture.

The Best Hair Sprays for Hair Extensions.

Yes, you can use hair spray on hair extensions- that is if they are human hair extensions. We here at Pelo Hair Los Angeles are in the phase of product development. However, until we get our product line on the market- here are some of our hair spray recommendations for hair extensions.

Aveda Controlforce Firm Hold Hair Spray. This product is amazing. It is light and dries quickly. It is also super soft and holds well. It really is the perfect hair spray. A natural corn derivative prevents flaking, and the rose, bergamot, and lavender scent is a plus.

Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray. This hair spray performs double duty. It holds hair well and it shines hair without making it look greasy or dirty. This hair spray is packed with Vitamin E, so you may have to wash your hair extensions more often- but the product is worth a try.

We also love Garnier Fructis Style Sleek & Shine Anti-Humidity Hairspray. This hair spray is perfect for people living down south and who also wear hair extensions. If you wear curly hair extensions then try this product for sure. It prevents curls from frizzing out and is still gentle on your locks.

If you have questions about a specific product that isn't on this list, please contact us via Twitter. We are always happy to help!
