What to Look for When Purchasing Brazilian Hair.

Brazilian hair is one of the best types of hair available when buying human hair extensions. So, what should you look for when purchasing Brazilian hair?

The hair has to be in its natural state or its not virgin. I've seen some women with obviously dyed hair extensions say they paid good money for virgin hair. Virgin hair means the hair was never treated with any chemicals. Brazilian hair may contain some natural highlights but obvious blonde on brown frosting is a huge red flag.

The hair needs to look healthy and shiny. Brazilian Virgin hair is popular because of its reputation as shiny, sleek and healthy appearance. Flat, dry, or damaged looking extensions should never be considered to be a good purchase option.

Buying hair out of a van or from a friend is a no-no. This should be obvious but there seems to be public perception that Virgin hair is either hard to get or expensive to get. While there are some companies that overly charge because Brazilian Virgin hair is in demand, the product itself is available in many stores, like Pelo Hair Los Angeles' Thousand Oaks store. We ship out samples for under twenty dollars- as would any solid company. Buying hair from the back of a van or a friend may be cheaper but there is no real way of knowing what you are buying.

When considering buying Brazilian Virgin hair, a woman needs to look for a natural taper at the end of the hair extension. There is a difference between Virgin and Common Brazilian hair too. Common Brazilian means the hair was collected from a few sources. Although the quality is the same, the hair has been processed to correct cuticle issues from the collection and to match a curl, wave or sleek appearance- making it far from Virgin hair.

Purchasing Hair Chalk, Why & How.

We here at Pelo Hair Los Anegeles sell the world's best human hair extension, which are always ethically sourced. We also sell trending products, such as hair chalk, to keep up with client demand. So, what is hair chalk and how does it work?

Hair chalk adds temporary vivid color to your existing hair. It can be worn on any type and/or color of hair. You can add a couple daring streaks of pink, blue, green or purple. Celebrity Lauren Conrad posted a photo on her blog with tie-dyed (multi-colored) hair as a result of hair chalk the product has been all the rage. Every beauty magazine is writing about the product, including a nice piece on Yahoo. Read it here: http://news.yahoo.com/chalk-coloring-hair-pastels-trend-140938270.html

Hair chalk works because the temporary product is composed of highly concentrated color. You can buy the product from us. Make sure to have a spray bottle filled with clean water on hand. You will also need a flat iron or a curling iron. Make sure to have rubber gloves on before touching the product as it can stain skin. The same goes for fabric so apply the product when wearing an old shirt.

The steps:

A. Spray a 1-inch section of hair with water. You don't need to soak the entire strand, just go as high up as you want the color to be.

B. Color on your hair with one of the hair chalk pastels.

C. Wait for your hair to air dry. Depending on your hair, this could take up to a half of an hour.

D. Using the curling or flat iron, go over each colored strand. This sets the colors in your hair, so it will last longer. Then brush and style however you normally would!

Hair chalk can stay in your hair for up to a week. Really, the amount of time depends on how processed (or not processed) your hair is. Bleached out hair tends not to hold the color very long where virgin hair seems to grab the chalk colors longer.

July Hair Extension Trends!

July is here, finally! The trend for hair this month is long, beach waves. But, what if you have short to medium hair? You don't have to commit to a hot wig or traditional hair extensions. We here at Pelo Hair Los Angeles offer Tape / Skin Weft hair. You can easily self apply it or have it applied at your salon. This type of hair extension is double-sided and is applied directly to your own hair, creating long and flowing locks that can be easily removed with oil.

If you have a photo of what you would like to look like , you can also upload it directly on our website along with your current photo (front and back of your head), and we can recommend what length of tape hair would be best for you.

Tape hair is easy to apply and care for. It is one of our best-selling products. Again, all of our hair is always ethically-sourced.

Until next time,

Hair Extension Color Charts Are Here!

Many of you asked for our hair color charts to be on the website. Well, ask and you shall receive. We have both of these color charts on our website and now right here on our blog! If you ever have a question about a color match please call us before ordering. It avoids a headache on your end and one less trip to the post office to correct the problem.

Also, if you're thinking about dyeing your own hair extensions then review the tips below.

Tips to Dye Hair Extensions:

1. Always test a section of your hair extensions with your desired hair dye to see what the color looks like and see if it matches your natural hair. Don't dye the entire lot of hair until you tested a section first.

1. Make sure you dye your clip in hair extensions to a darker shade and not a lighter one. We, as people, tend to overestimate how dark something really is. Chose darker and you will get an exact match.

2. Always use a good quality semi-permanent hair dye as this helps your human hair extensions to hold their color better and as a result, the color will last longer. Permanent dye will not hold as well and you might have to redo the process.

4. Start color application in the mid-lengths of long hair and work the color up to the roots and down to ends. The roots will be the last part of the hair to take the color.

5. Once you color the extensions, fold the foil over the weft hair and allow the color to stay on the hair as long as the instructions suggest. Don't scrunch the hair or wrap it in a bun unless you want a tie-dyed effect.

5.Like you do for your natural hair, Once you rinse the color, make sure you condition it to prevent damage.

Once you have cleaned them, let the hair extensions dry completely so that the moisture fades away, especially, if they are human hair extensions. Don't try to wear the extensions out while they are still moist.

Until next time,
